about us

Hashomer Hatzair is a progressive Zionist youth movement that was established 100 years ago and specializes in youth-led experiential Jewish education. Based on the values of equity, community, and social responsibility, our camps and year-round activities encourage youth to shape their communities and find personal relevance in Judaism, Jewish peoplehood, and Israel.
In addition to our year round programming, Camp Shomria engages all of our year-round participants at our campsite in Upstate New York. At Camp Shomria youth experience our roots from the Kibbutz movement. We grow over 20 varieties of vegetables, get all of our eggs from 120 chickens, we take care of 6 goats. Additionally, 98% of our electricity is supplied by solar panels. Most importantly, our campers experience the beautiful wilderness of the Catskills, learn important scouting skills, make life-long friends, and are part of a caring and meaningful Jewish community.
