Announcing our Spring Passover Campaign

Dear Alumni, Parents, Donors, and Friends of Hashomer Hatzair USA,

When I started middle school, my parents sent me to a classic sleepaway camp, with manicured lawns, fancy activities like rock climbing, and surface-level Jewish programming. It quickly became clear that this was not the place for me.

When my parents learned about Camp Shomria, it seemed too good to be true: a kibbutz in the Catskills, where chanichim/ot spent the summer not only playing sports and games, but also exploring their creative and intellectual selves and developing a deep relationship to an historic, Jewish youth movement. To their delight, Hashomer Hatzair was able to offer financial support for both me and my sister that first summer. I spent the next seven summers in Liberty, NY and can confidently say that Camp Shomria was the best experience of my adolescence.

I am so grateful to the Hashomer Hatzair donors who made those summers possible.  Financial constraints should never be a barrier to the magic of our moshava. To ensure that any family can send their child to Camp, we are kicking off our 2023 Spring Passover Campaign to raise $18,000 toward our scholarship fund for this coming summer.

Given the ripple effects of the pandemic and the ongoing inflation crisis, scholarship funds for Camp Shomria are more critical than ever. Last summer, over a third of chanichimot were able to come to mosh thanks to financial aid. The number of families who will need this help are as high this year.

Luckily, the Harold Grinspoon Foundation is generously offering a match for every dollar raised in this campaign. If we all come together to raise $18,000, we can ensure that all families get the support they need to send their campers to mosh this summer!

With summer just around the corner, now is the time to help as many chanichim/ot as possible enjoy our wonderful moshava. Please make a contribution today.  No gift amount is too small! To make a contribution, you can send a check with the attached envelope or donate through our website: www.campshomria.com/pages/giving.

Happy spring and happy Passover!

Thank you and Chazak ve’Ematz,

Yael Fisher
