Camp Shomria In Person COVID-19 Prevention and Response Plan

SCREENING AND PREVENTION
Pre-screen – Parents are requested to record a daily screening including checking temperature and symptoms for 5 days prior to in-person seminar, including: fever over 100.4, cough, shortness of breath, diarrhea, fatigue, headache, muscle aches, nausea, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, or vomiting. Parents must verify that their camper has not been in close contact with a person who has been diagnosed with or suspected of having COVID-19.

TRANSPORTATION
Parents are responsible for transportation to the seminar. If staff or campers need help with transportation, consult with Adi and Alex and they will figure out a solution. The aim is to keep it parents drop off if possible, so we are not organizing carpooling.

COMMUNICABLE DISEASE RESPONSE PLAN
If a camper or staff member is not feeling well the following will happen:
  1. They will be separated from the group.
  2. Adi will connect their parents to schedule pickup time.
  3. All other parents will be asked to pick up their campers as soon as possible.
  4. If the family finds out that their camper has COVID-19 they will make sure to notify Adi and Alex and they will let all parents know.

FACILITY
  1. Hand sanitizer and soap – Hand sanitizer dispensers will be available to the campers and staff at all times.
  2. Airflow – Airflow will be maintained in all backyards.
  3. Sleeping bags – sleeping bags will be situated 6 feet apart.
  4. Bathroom - If/when campers will have to use the bathroom they will only enter the house with a madrich or madricha that will make sure they do not touch anything in the house and hand them a tissue. They will use it to open the door. Once they are done, the madrich will make sure they wash their hands and walk them out.

FOOD
  1. No food for the seminar will be cooked in the respective hosts’ kitchen.
  2. All food will either be pre-bought and ready to eat, pre-packaged or delivered.
  3. BYOC- in order to consider environmental implications, campers and staff will bring their own plates/bowls/utensils, camping style. They will be washed and sanitized before and after every meal.
  4. Disinfection – High-touch and food areas will be cleaned and disinfected at the before and after every meal.  Efforts will be made to not share kitchen equipment, or to sanitize between users.
  5. Handwashing/sanitation – Groups will wash their hands before eating.
  6. Garbage – Cans will have lids off during the meal, so no one needs to remove them.
  7. Water bottles – Campers will be encouraged to carry their personal water bottle.  These may be filled. Water will be filled and provided in coolers by a hose or with the permission to use the sink inside of the respective hosts’ home. Campers and staff will wash hands before and after filling up water bottles.
  8. Dining Aria Cleaning – After each meal, tables will be cleaned by groups soap and sanitizer.  That will be followed by sanitizing by staff, using a disinfectant on tables, benches, and all other high touch areas.
  9. Bathrooms –will be cleaned and twice-daily disinfected.

CLEANING, DISINFECTION, AND PROTECTION
1. Hygiene
a. Handwashing – Campers and staff will follow a routine of handwashing with soap and water, for a minimum of 20 seconds, following CDC guidelines for thorough cleaning. Staff will ensure this happens at these times:
  1. Before meals
  2. After using the bathroom
  3. After entering the tent
  4. After using common items, like sports equipment
  5. After coughing, sneezing or nose-blowing
How to wash:
  1. Wet hands; turn off water
  2. Lather with soap, including back of hands and fingers
  3. Scrub for at least 20 seconds
  4. Rinse under clean running water
  5. Dry with paper towel or personal towel

b. Hand Sanitizer – Hand sanitizer containing at least 60% ethanol or 70% isopropanol will be used in dispensers in tents, dining aria and program areas.  They will be used when hand washing is not feasible. Campers will be taught to apply to hands, rub together, including back of hands and fingers, about 20 seconds.

2. Protection
a. Physical Distancing – Staff will help campers maintain 6-foot physical distance as much as possible, especially when near other groups than their own.  Aids may be used to visually demonstrate this distance. Campers will not be allowed to sit on each other’s sleeping bags or close in other settings.

b. Face Mask – In settings where interacting with others within a 6-foot distance for more than 15 minutes, inside the house, for instance, campers and staff will wear face masks, either cloth or disposable. Masks will not be used during physical activity as they inhibit breathing.

3. Cleaning and Disinfection
We will follow the recommended 2-step cleaning and disinfecting procedure.  Cleaning involves using detergent and water with a cloth or paper towel to remove dirt and microorganisms. Disinfecting requires the use of an EPA-approved disinfectant, used according to manufacturer’s directions. This usually requires wetting a surface and leaving it to dry naturally.

b. Dining Aria Cleaning – After each meal, tables will be cleaned by groups soap and sanitizer.  That will be followed by sanitizing by staff, using a disinfectant on tables, benches, and all other high touch areas.

c. Common Equipment – Counselors will be trained on what equipment they need to clean when their group has finished using it.

d. Bathroom - The bathrooms will be cleaned and sanitized before the kids arrive.

ACTIVITIES
Activities have been altered where needed to assure physical distancing and to keep campers separate.  Equipment – As stated, whenever possible, each camper will be given their own gear to use throughout the activity.  When a group is done, the gear will be disinfected.

GROUP
Shomria’s program model is uniquely conducive to the changes recommended for preventing disease transmission.  Our campers stay in one small group of 10-20 with 2 staff who remain with that group for the whole time.  This is in line with the CDC recommendation to limit any spread of contagion.

STAFF
Here are the safety measures in place to ensure a healthy and virus-free staff:
Extra Training – Staff will receive specific training on all of these protocols, so they may uphold them and also teach their campers how to do the same.

COMMUNICATION
We will maintain frequent communication and transparency with guardians and staff.
  1. Parents – In case of an incident, parents will be notified.  All families will receive these current guidelines.
  2. Staff – The camp director will keep staff informed of changed protocols, pertinent outside guidance, and any incidents.  Staff will receive these guidelines.
  3. Campers – We want to minimize anxiety among our campers while remaining honest.  Staff will teach them new procedures and then COVID will generally not be discussed.

TRAINING
All staff will be trained in all pertinent procedures for preventing disease transmission and cleaning and disinfecting properly.  They will be instructed in which parts of the process are their responsibility.  Staff will be trained in how to introduce these new routines to their campers effectively and how to uphold standards while maintaining a positive camp environment.
