Meet Our Team

Adi Menda Blu, Executive Director adi@campshomria.org
Adi joined the Camp Shomria and Hashomer Hatzair US staff in 2019. She is the Central Shalicha (Israeli Emissary). Adi is trained as a Social Worker, in the past ten years, she worked with families, teens, and parents as a Mental Health Director. Adi grew up in Kibbutz Lahav, where she spent her summers leading camp programs. Adi and her family live in New Jersey. Her husband, Yoni, is Shomria’s Site Supervisor, and their three children, will be joining Shomria this summer. Adi loves people, nature, and music and she found all her loves at Shomria! Happy to be here and take part in this incredible camp and movement.

  Alex Ben-Abba, Camp Director alex@campshomria.org
  Alex comes to Camp Shomria from CBE’s Hebrew Camp in Brooklyn. Her professional experience also includes running after school programs in Brooklyn and Manhattan and teaching elementary and college students. She holds an MFA from RISD and a teaching certificate from Brown University. Alex was born in the US and grew up in Hashomer Hatzair in Jerusalem, she did her Shnat (gap year) in Haifa and was a Morah Chayelet (teach-soldier) as part of her Nahal Service in Kibbutz Migvan in Sderot. She shares her life with Tal and har two daughters and is super excited to get to know everyone!



Yoni Blu, Site Supervisor 
Yoni joined Camp Shomria staff in the summer of 2019. Throughout the school year, Yoni works for the second year as a Hebrew teacher at Ma׳ayanot High School for Girls in Teaneck, New Jersey where he teaches 9th through 12th grade. Yoni holds a BA in Geography from Ben Gurion University and a teaching certificate by the “Hotham'' project (TFA- in the USA) from Levinsky College and Oranim College. He worked as an educator at Mekif Zain in Beer Sheva for 3 years. Yoni lives in New Jersey with Adi and their three children. He is excited about summer and looks forward to making sure everything works smoothly.

Bar Levy, Educational Shlicha education@campshomria.org
Bar is the Educational Shlicha at Hashomer Hatzair, this would be her third summer in this role. Bar grew up in Kfar Saba, Israel and first got involved with Hashomer Hatzair when She was 11 years old. Bar loves the movement and is very proud to have been a part of it all these years.  In addition to her educational role at camp, she is also the Coordinator for the Yedid (Israel) program. She is very excited about the upcoming summer and will be there for the Hadracha (counselors), campers and parents or any issues that arise!

  Ilene Cantor, Lifeguard (aquatics Director)
  Ilene is our head lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor and manages the team of younger     
  lifeguards. She is also trained in first aid and CPR. Ilene has been our Aquatics director since  
  2011 and she is a parent of 2 Shomrot.

Nurse (Health Director)  - TBA
The nurse is responsible for all medical issues campers and CIT's might have. She/He is approved and inspected  by the NYS Dept of Health.  Nurse is on site 24/7 while camp is in session and will communicate directly with the parents regarding any medical issues. On top of the nurse we have on site 3-6 additional first aid givers. (we are also 10 minutes drive from the closest hospital )  infirmary 845.292.4417
