winter camp faq

Q: Why send my child to winter camp?
A: Winter camp is an excellent opportunity for your child to take a break from their busy lives at home. During this four-day retreat, your child will partake in fun and engaging activities while forming new relationships and becoming part of a community.

Q: When is the registration deadline?
A: Registration officially closes on Jan 15, 2019, but in order to get the best price you should register by Dec 1, 2018

Q: How many children attend winter camp and how old are they?
A: We host an intimate group of 40-50 chanichim (campers) each year. They range between the ages of 8 and 15.

Q: Who’s in charge?
A: Benno Canner is the Camp Director and can be reached at all times prior to and during winter camp. He can be reached at 917-882-9264 or by emailing info@campshomria.org.

Q: Who will take care of my child throughout the day?
A: The staff we bring to winter camp consists of former camp attendees. They have been thoroughly screened and trained to be responsible madrichim (counselors). The ratio of children to counselors is 3:1.  We will also have our educational director, Bar Levy, on hand to support the Hadracha (staff).

Q: What will my child be doing each day?
A: During winter camp, your child will participate in a variety of activities including: interactive indoor projects, outdoor physical activities such as nature hikes and snow tubing, theatrical events, and a musical talent show!

Q: Where will my child sleep?
A: There are heated cabins at winter camp. Madrichim (counselors) stay with the chanichim (campers), who all sleep with kids their own age.

Q: What will my child eat?
A: PEEC serves three meals per day in addition to two snacks. There are kosher options.

Q: What happens if there is a medical issue or emergency?
A: We have first aid kits on hand. The local staff of PEEC are trained in first aid, and the closest hospital is 15 minutes away.
