Yedid
The Yedid year is one where the participants acquire the knowledge and tools to return to the movement, their communities and their peers; able to share what they have learned. The program consists of two parts: year round programming and first session of Camp Shomria, as well as the abroad trip to Israel. Together, the component parts create a process that usher our oldest campers into their first year of Hadracha (Leadership) where they take on new roles as leaders in the movement.
In the first portion, participants, together with their kvutza mates, gain knowledge and understanding necessary in order to prepare them for their trip to Israel, and for their return to Hadracha. The year is comprised of seminars, major peulot (actives) such as fall, winter and spring camp, and two to three weeks of Camp Shomria. Their madrichim (counselors) provide programming on how to be a madrich/a, and begin to challenge their ideas on education, Israel, and social justice. The abroad program is composed of two parts as well. In the first portion, the group comes together with our partners in Europe for a Hadracha training seminar "Seminar Hadracha" or an exploration of Israel "Machane Israel." The two programs rotate, meaning that one year, program participants attend "Seminar Hadracha" in a European city, while the next year they will participate in "Machane Israel" in Israel. In both cases, participants spend a week creating friendships and exchanging ideas with teens from all over Europe who have spent their childhood in Hashomer Hatzair. The second portion of the program is a three week tour of Israel, including hikes through Ein Gedi and the Galil, visits to historical sites, sleeping in the desert and so much more. Through educational seminars, participants gain in-depth understanding of Israel, it's culture, and it's complexities. *According to a new update from Birthright, going on Yedid does NOT make one ineligible for participation in Taglit-Birthright. |

Testimonials
Going on a trip with my kvutza to Israel was one of the most wonderful, educational, and just plain fun experiences I have ever had. Through both experiencing different cultures and acquiring invaluable travel skills, I gained a worldliness that has affected me in many ways and that will always stay with me. Being with a group I had grown up with and knowing I was always safe gave me the comfort to explore my surroundings and learn things I otherwise never would have. Yedid also gave me a more profound knowledge of the history, political climate, and culture of Israel and upon coming back, I found myself incredibly more educated about and connected to Israel. Going on Yedid was one of the best decisions I have made in my life, and I wouldn't trade the skills I gained and the meaningful experiences I underwent for the world.
- Mika Y-Z, Kvutzat Adamit, Yedid 2012
Even though I have lived in Israel my entire life, I learned so much about Israel in so many aspects. Im proud to say that after those three weeks of spending time with my kvutza and learning about Israel I feel much more connected to the country I live in, and i'm happy to be apart of a world movement that encourages young people to build a relationship with Israel in a critical yet supportive way. Once you enter hadracha, you don't alway have as much time to be with your kvutza and develop trust with each and everyone of them. But going on yedid right before joining hadracha helped us bond and develop the trust and friendships between each other, which helped us support each other while we are learning on the job. Yedid taught me that even though you cant always physically be there for a friend, you can always support them. At the end of the day your kvutza is like your second family.
